This National Geographic map shows the shocking extent of climate change

We’re forever being told about how climate change is slowly destroying the arctic and causing rising sea levels.

But the worrying extent of this has now been made crystal clear, after National Geographic changed their atlas to reflect the levels of melting sea ice.

Referencing the changes in a speech, President Barack Obama said: ‘Shrinking ice caps forced National Geographic to make the biggest change in its atlas since the Soviet Union broke apart.’

And while the atlas reflects the sea levels at the time of publication in September 2014, National Geographic expert Juan Jose Valdes fears that the ice has since melted to even more worrying levels.

‘The end of Arctic summer is still several weeks away, and it’s too early to say if another record will be broken,’ he said.
